Piano Maker's Glue
Wessell, Nickel & Gross Piano Maker's Glue is a high-quality, industrial grade, white glue. Widely used in American piano factories, WNG is now making this glue available to piano technicians. WNG Piano Maker's Glue is far superior to over-the-counter white glues found in a typical hardware store.
Because of the gap-filling properties of this glue, it has been commonly used in the piano industry for hammer gluing. As long as the WNG composite hammer shank has been properly roughened, WNG Piano Maker's Glue works well to attach hammers to the carbon tube shanks as well as the traditional wooden hammer shanks.
The utility of this glue does not end here, however. As with most white glues, a wide variety of materials can be glued in a straight-forward manner. In a piano shop, WNG Piano Maker's Glue is particularly good for gluing felt or cloth to wood.
One interesting property is that with heat, the glue can bond nearly instantly. Veneering is an obvious application. Coat a piece wood to be veneered with WNG Piano Maker's Glue. Lay a piece of veneer over the wet glue. Use a hot iron to firmly press the veneer against the material being veneered. Within a few seconds, the glue will set--holding the veneer permanently. No complicated clamping required. Great for veneer repairs in hard-to-clamp places.
A similar technique can be used to attach plastic sharps to keys. Set up an iron on the bench with the heated surface up, and parallel to your bench top. Set the gluing surface of the plastic sharp on the iron. Apply the glue to the key where the sharp will go. When the sharp is hot, position carefully and place the heated sharp in the wet glue on the key. Clamp using hand pressure only for 2 or 3 seconds. Release and scrape the glue squeeze from the joint. The sharp is glued onto the key.
Wessell, Nickel & Gross Piano Maker's Glue is very useful for a variety of applications.
